A New Year Goodbye to 2003 Its joys and sorrows. Its abundant blessings. Accomplishments and defeats. Old hopes and dreams. Fears and frustrations. Griefs. Each was my teacher. I bless them all, And say goodbye. What do I take with me into 2004? A little more wisdom than I had. Strengthened faith. Deepened humility. The memory of a walk by the river When sunset stained the clouds A delicate peach color And a full moon rose against the blue. What more do I take with me into 2004? A greater capacity for forgiveness Of others and myself. A willing acceptance of what is. Acute awareness of the sacredness Of each and every moment. A deeper knowing that the moment is all there is. The memory of a single gold leaf dancing in a breeze. And once, a Great Blue Heron flying low and straight Above the river’s shining surface.
